As an auspicious animal, carp has long been recorded in ancient books and records. Carp Brook Culture in Puyuan Village, Zhouning bears rather abundant connotation of Chinese traditional culture. Here, the Brook Bridge is either old and new, while the excellent local customs render good education merits; the Righteousness & Filial Piety Temple remains unchanged, while the harmonious coexistence of man and carp is the most vivid scene. This less than 500m-wide and about 3.3m-wide Carp Brook has seen the harmonious coexistence of man and carps for so long, making a wonder in China. A few square kilometers around this village, the well-known Zheng Ancestral Hall and Filial Son Memorial Gate have been kept in intact condition, rendering a unique scene. Over 800 years of time, the fish-and-water-like relationship between man and carp, harmonious, intimate and agreeable, marks a model for all human beings.

The Carp Brook Culture in Puyuan Village, Zhouning County is unique in the world for its carp burial, carp funeral oration and carp funeral. So far, the Brook has been ratified as the "Carp Brook with the Longest History" by Guinness. Its carp protection culture has been incorporated among the first batch incorporated in the List of Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage of Fujian Province.
