Ningde is a well-known tea hometown in China and produces 24% and 4% tea of Fujian Province and China respectively. Both the tea garden area and tea yield in Ningde amounts to 1/3 of the whole province and ranks No.1 among tea-producing cities in China. Tea regions there are mainly distributed in places where mountains, sea, rivers, islands and lakes contribute to beautiful and unique landscapes. As a result, Ningde is pervaded with tea aromas and enjoys long-standing tea rhyme. Ningde tea has been exported in the 16^th year during the reign of Guang Xu in the Qing Dynasty (1890) and Kungfu black tea has also won a good market in Europe and America since 1910. So far, over 200 quality tea brands represented by "Fuding White Tea" and "Tanyang Kungfu" have been popular at home and abroad.

Tea Culture - Fuding White Tea

White tea, as famous traditional tea created by China's tea growers, is one of China's six types of tea. It is mainly produced in Fuding, Zhenghe, Songxi and other places in Fujian. At the confluence of Fujian and Zhejiang, Fuding has long enjoyed the reputation of "Hometown of China's White Tea". Native to Taimushan, Fuding White Tea is characterized by regional uniqueness, natural process and exclusive efficacy.

Fuding tea is made by special process, free from frying and rubbing, but with enough slow fire. The primary making process of white tea includes fresh leaves, deterioration, piling, drying and trimming. Among these steps, deterioration and drying are two dominant ones, with the former falling into natural deterioration and duplex deterioration. The refining process includes semifinished tea, trimming (by hand), main processing, even piling, baking and packaging. On the basis of traditional tea making method, its unique and significant health efficacy is preserved and as a result, the white tea produced by such a process is rather fragrant. So far, the making process of Fuding White Tea has been incorporated in List of National Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage.

Over 300 years ago, the fragrant and sweet taste and excellent quality made Fuding White Tea deeply favored by royal families in Europe and enjoy great popularity at home and abroad. 300 years later, "Fuding White Tea" won the "Golden Prize for China Famous Tea for Century Expo" at Expo Milano 2015 China Pavilion Chinese Tea Cultural Week & Century Expo China Famous Tea Election and Award Party, pushing "Fuding White Tea" to a wider global market. 

Fujian is the cradle of black tea in the world, while Fu'an "Tanyang Kungfu" black tea ranks first among three major kinds of Kungfu black tea. Native to Tanyang Village at the foot of Fu'an Baiyunshan, "Tanyang Kungfu" black tea came into being after trial by Hu Fusi in Tanyang Village, Fu'an during the reign of Xianfeng and Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. It is characterized by stout, tight and thin shape, fragrant, refreshing, sweet and thick taste as well as red leaf base.

Tanyang Kungfu Black Tea is made with carefully selected materials and exquisite process. The tea comes into being after deterioration, rubbing, fermentation and drying in order. First, polyphenols in fresh tea leaves are properly oxidized and then tea leaves are made into well-striped black semifinished tea with both buds and leaves intact to render red liquid. Then, after screening, cutting, winnowing, trimming, re-firing, piling and other processes, commercial tea of different grade comes into being. Black tea made through this process is superior to all others and has bright color and strong fragrance, and fresh, pure and sweet quality. So far, the making process of Tanyang Kungfu has been incorporated in List of Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage of the province.

In 1915, "Tanyang Kungfu" black tea was awarded the golden prize at Panama Pacific International Exposition, appointed as the exclusive tea for the British Royal Family and gained the reputation that "black tea from Fujian superior to all others, while Tanyang Kungfu tops the list". In 2015, "Tanyang Kungfu" became the only black tea brand selected as the "Global Partner" and "Designated Tea" of Expo Milano 2015 China Pavilion. The brilliant history of "Tanyang Kungfu" is the pride and glory of all tea growers in Fu'an and also the origin of dreams.
