Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark is situated in Ningde City, northeast of Fujian Province, China. The geopark covers an area of 2829.82 square kilometers, including four core areas of Taimushan, Baishuiyang-Yuanyangxi, Baiyunshan and Liyuxi-jiulongji.
Geographically, the geopark is located in the southeastern part of the Eurasian Plate, belonging to the active continental margin, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. It lies in the Mesozoic coastal volcanic eruption zone of southeastern China, which is an important part of the Pacific volcanic rim and the alkali-rich miarolitic granite zone in the costal regions of Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, and Guangdong Province.
The geopark integrates different types of landforms, such as miarolitic landform, volcanic landform, river erosional landform, and coastal landform, along with water landscapes, making it the geographical grand sight in the southeast costal area of China.
The miarolitic granite peak cluster-stone egg landform in Taimushan is unique. The bedrock-composed flat riverbed in Baishuiyang is peculiarly worldwide. Yuanyangxi Canyon is tranquil but steep and majestic. Various types of potholes in Baiyunshan are marvelous creations of nature. The cascade waterfall in Jiulongji is magnificent.
The geopark possesses a superior ecological environment and glorious humanity history.
Furthermore, it is a major inhabited area of the She Minority in China, with unique and profound ethnic customs. The She people here live and work in peace and contentment. You can visit She villages, try on She costumes, wear She accessories and enjoy She songs.
Fu’an City and Fuding City are the “hometowns of Chinese tea”. Tanyang Gong Fu Black Tea and Fuding White Tea are renowned in both domestic and overseas.
The wooden-arched covered bridges, stone-arched covered bridges, and horizontal beam covered bridges in Pingnan County and Zhouning County are all built with imaginative craft, carrying the amazing culture and rich history of Chinese bridges.
