From October 9th to 15th, 2024, the 8th UNESCO Workshop on Management and Development of Global Geoparks was successfully held at Xiangxi UGGp. Representatives of Ningde UGGp participated in this seven-day training event.

This training workshop, with the theme of “UNESCO Global Geoparks and Sustainable Development”, was hosted by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) and the UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat, and was undertaken by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Xiangxi UGGp. During the training, representatives from geoparks in China, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, and other countries gathered together to jointly learn about the operational management experience of global geoparks.

The representatives from Ningde UGGp gained a deep understanding of the concepts, standards, application, assessment, and re-assessment processes of Global Geoparks through expert lectures, question and answer sessions, participant discussions, and field visits. At the same time, Ningde UGGp also engaged in extensive exchanges with representatives from other geoparks, sharing experiences and practices in the areas of geological heritage conservation, science popularization education, eco-tourism, and community development.

This training has not only enhanced the management and development capabilities of Ningde UGGp, but also established a platform for cooperation and exchange with other geoparks. Ningde UGGp will seize this training as an opportunity to further strengthen its ties with the GGN, continuously learn from and draw upon advanced experiences, and strive to promote the high-quality development.
