Recently, the State Council issued the list of the ninth batch of national park of China, which included 19 scenic areas such as the Ergun Scenic Area in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Dazhan River Scenic Area in Heilongjiang Province. The Zhouning Jiulongji Scenic Area in Fujian is on the list, too.
According to reports, the Zhouning Jiulongji Scenic Area covers a total area of 9.5 km2 and consists of the Carp Brook and Jiulongji.
The Carp Brook Scenic Area lies in the Puyuan Village, about 5 km west of the No. 302 provincial highway in Zhouning County. The stream runs across the village, from one side of the No. 302 provincial highway to the Guanyin Corridor Bridge at the north exit of the village. Of the total length of 950 meters or so, about 480 meters flows through the ancient village.
The Jiulongji Waterfall is located in the steep mountain and broke valley 13km southeast of Zhouning County. It is said that there were nine flood dragons gathering here in the ancient time. So it was named Jiulongji, indicating nine-dragon waterfall in Chinese. The total drop of the waterfall is more than 300m. In its 1,000m flow, nine different levels of gaps go through the valley, forming extraordinary plunging and deep pools. It is therefore known as "No. 1 in Fujian", "Rare in China", and "the Top Waterfall in East China".
As the State Council notice pointed out, the scenic and historic resources are the precious and non-renewable natural cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. All relevant parties must strengthen organizational leadership and coordination, do a good job in the protection and management of scenic spots and resources in accordance with the principles of scientific planning, unified management, strict protection, and sustainable use, and promote the sustainable development of scenic spots.
