What is the significance of the "first batch 40 national tourism demonstration units"? 

According to information, in order to meet the diversified and personalized demands of tourists and boost the transformation and upgrading of tourist destinations, the National Tourism Administration started the assessment of the first batch national tourism demonstration bases nationwide early this year, aiming to select 40 bases in 5 categories, namely 10 green tourism bases, 10 cultural tourism bases, 10 leisure tourism cities, 5 blue tourism bases and 5 healthy tourism bases.

As approved by the committee, Fujian Baishuiyang - Yuanyang Stream was listed as a "China Green Tourism Demonstration Base", together with Jilin Changbai Mountain, Anhui Huangshan Mountain, Sichuan Jiuzhaigou Valley, Guangxi Lijiang River and so on.

The Baishuiyang - Yuanyang Stream Scenic Area has grown into a boutique scenic spot and one of the top 10 tourism brands in Fujian thanks to the development over the past decade since 2004. Tourism has become the pillar industry of Pingnan. According to the data, Pingnan has received a total of 2,808,900 visitors last year and the tourism revenue has reached RMB 1.942 billion. In January this year, the Baishuiyang - Yuanyang Stream Scenic Area was approved as one of the "first batch national tourism demonstration bases" by the National Tourism Administration; and in the following month, Pingnan was listed among the first batch of "creating all domain tourism demonstration areas" by the National Tourism Administration.

Baishuiyang, honored as "Peculiar Landscape" and "uniqueness of the world and mystery of the universe", is the only "Qianshui Square" in the world. Along the flat riverbed of 2km or so, its maximum width is 182m, covering a total area of 80,000m². The bed consists of one rock and is watered evenly without any sand. It flows only to your ankles. Its name originates from the glistening waves (Baishui in Chinese) under the sun. 

The Yuanyang Stream Gorge, known as "holy land for couples", "hometown of mandarin ducks", and "macaque park and fairyland on earth", is in the downstream of Baishuiyang and got the name due to the thousand pairs of mandarin ducks (Yuanyang in Chinese) coming here from the north in winter. Among the dense forests, the gorge is over 500m deep and 1m wide to the minimum, integrating the streams, peaks, rocks, caves, waterfalls, clouds, fogs, paths, trestles, and animals into a 3D hundred-mile gallery.
