In the morning of July 11, the early morning rain just stopped. Fujian Taimushan was mist-shrouded, while the verdant pine and cypress trees were shining in a luxury dark green against the background of gauze-like mist. In such cool climate, a great number of experts and scholars from many prestigious universities at home and abroad visited Taimushan to experience the majestic landscape of mountains and sea in the so-called "celestial city in the sea".
The Yingxian trestle (length: 800m) was surrounded by trees. The forest after rain was beautiful and tranquil, refreshing and comforting the mind with a high concentration of negative oxygen ions. Accompanied by the guide's interesting description, experts were delighted, filling the tour with laughters and happy voices.
Taimushan is characterized by the peak cluster and pebbly landforms of potassium feldspar miarolitic granite. After weathering denudation and water flushing for millions upon millions of years, the crisscrossed perilous peaks, cliffs, fissures, narrow gorges, slumping and rockery settings constitute a variety of vivid shaping scenery. Scenic spots like the Fuqifeng, the Heart of Taimu, Yingkefeng, Hemaxiaotian and Yangzhangfeng amazed the experts, who couldn't resist temptation of such beautiful sceneries and took pictures with them frequently.
"Xianrenjuban falls into the mortal world, which is unclimbable one after another dangling piece. I wish to build a shelter nearby the canal, thus to accommodate scholars of little means". Due to time limitation, the tour ended in Xianrenjuban. Although they only visited a small part of the Taimushan Scenic Area, experts and scholars were still impressed by such a distinctive landscape and expected to appreciate it for the next time.
For Professor Augustin F. C. Holl who had difficulty in actions due to being injured, to climb a mountain to appreciate the scenery seemed unreachable somewhat. However, he was extremely interested in the historic site of Guoxing Temple at the foot of the mountain. Assisted by the entourage, he explored the historic site in spirits. Stone pillars, relics, one-thousand-year sago cycas... all of them enchanted him, who couldn't help saying: interesting!
On July 10, "the First Summit Forum on Mountain and Ocean Civilization" was held ceremoniously in the Crystal Palace Hall on the fourth floor of Fuding International Hotel, Fujian. Participants in this Forum included: experts and scholars (professors) from West Paris - Nanterre - La Defense University (University of Paris X-Nanterre; France), Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Renmin University of China, Xiamen University, Zhongshan University, South-Central University for Nationalities, Fujian Normal University, Yunnan Institute of Nationality Studies, Commercial Press, Ningde Normal University, Fujian Daily Office; leaders from Fujian Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Ningde Municipal Political Consultative Conference, and leaders from four systems of Fuding Municipality; as well as personages of all circles.
In this Summit Forum on Mountain and Ocean Civilization, 5 speeches were delivered: mountain-ocean civilization development; grand landscape of mountains and ocean - special session themed by Taimu culture; artistic conception of landscape and cultural exchange; mountain & ocean scenery and heritage of ethnic groups; southeast ocean and civilization interaction, thus jointly elaborating the theme of "Nature, Humanity, And Harmony: The Dialogue between Mountain and Ocean Civilization". Experts and scholars from prestigious universities at home and abroad introduced their researches and opinions on the mountain and ocean civilization.
In his speech titled as Lifeways and Adaptation: The Making of Cultural landscapes, Augustin F. C. Holl (Vice-president of University of Paris X-Nanterre (France), Professor in Archaeological Anthropology, and Consultant of UNESCO) said that: "it's a pleasure to come here. After a flight of 14 hours, I arrived in Fuding yesterday afternoon, and didn't know Fuding very well. However, when I looked outside the window, I saw its beautiful streams and distant mountains, and I was impressed by its wonderful landscape. Fuding is like my hometown in many ways, both of which are cities endowed with mountains and ocean. I wish that during the future construction of Fuding, instead of blindly imitating metropolises to accelerate pace of life, it shall be developed into a garden city via combining its own features, thus to enjoy the delight brought by slow life.
In his speech titled as The Status of Mountains in East Asian Civilization: Several Guesses, Wang Mingming (Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the Institute of Social Anthropology, Peking University) said that, mountains and ocean acted as a channel for communication, and Fuding was expected to remain its local features during its contact with the outside world via this channel, to protect traditions, pay attention to humanistic spirit inheritance, and combine local traditions with the nature, thus to hold in awe and veneration towards the nature.
In his speech titled as Fujian is Seated among Mountains and Ocean - Fujian Culture and Sino-Western Culture, Lin Jinshui (Professor of Fujian Normal University) said that, there were three famous mountains in Fujian: Mount Wuyi, Taimushan and Daiyunshan, all of which played indispensable roles in Sino-western culture exchange. Mount Wuyi - Zhu Xi - Neo-Confucianism - Matteo Ricci. (For example, Zhu Xi studied and grew up on Mount Wuyi, and Zhu's Neo-Confucianism were also cultivated and matured on Mount Wuyi. In the 16th century, Zhu's Neo-Confucianism was introduced into the Europe by Matteo Ricci the missionary, which also played a role in the European Enlightenment and Modernization.) Taimushan - Xiao Zhaozhe, He Xianyuan, Cao Xuequan - Matteo Ricci, Givlio Aleni (both were missionaries). Daiyunshan - Chinese ceramic whiteware - collections by European aristocracies - Givlio Aleni. No matter via persons or items, the mountain-ocean civilization stays in communication and mutual influencing without being blocked.
