It is stated that the rocks of Taimushan will talk. How can rocks talk? I am wondering. In fact, instead of talking, the peculiar and vivid rocks in Taimushan are personified by the interrelated folk stories about them passed down for thousands of years. The Fuqifeng, Tianzhufeng, Jinguipabi, Jinjibaoxiao, Zhongliyan, Yingxianzhang, Xianrenjuban, Xianwengduiyi, Jinmaopushu, Dunhouwanghai, and Yunbiaoshi are all quite familiar to us.
In addition to the extensive praises from tourists, these rocks have also struck the attention of Prof. Xu Xisheng, Chair Professor for the "Yangtze River Scholars Program" of the Ministry of Education of P.R.C., professor and doctoral tutor of the School of Earth Sciences in Nanjing University and winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
On July 16, an expert group led by Prof. Xu started a three-day inspection in the Global Geopark - Taimushan.
Xu Xisheng is also a member of the Solid Earth Composition and Evolution Committee of International Union of Geological Sciences (IGUSSECE), a part-time professor of the Macquarie University in Australia, a council of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy Petrology and Geochemistry, and the director of the Magmatic Rock Professional Committee. As an excellent worker in geological science and technology, he is mainly engaged in the researches about the crust-mantle effects in southeast China and the lithospheric dynamics, including studies on the diagenesis and mineralization mechanisms of granite and the mantle rock geochemistry. He is an energetically devoted explorer, unrolling the life blueprint on the vast and deep earth beneath his feet. This inspection was focused on the miraculous granite landform in Taimushan, unveiled the geological mystery of the mountain.
"The rocks in Taimu are no ordinary. All of them can be recognized as something according to their shapes, forming a unique world. There are caves above the ground and galleries underneath. Tourists all desire to have another tour in Taimu attracted by its countless wonders". The Taimushan park features the peaks covered with miarolitic granite, which creating a peculiar geological relic "Scenic Route" together with the miarolitic granite caves and heirographens inside. The delegation surveyed many spots in the Taimushan Scenic Area. Interested in the granite landscapes, experts carefully analyzed the formation of various granite geological features and took photos as documentation.
