On November 9, 2025, the 4th Fujian Taimushan Tunnel Crossing Challenge kicked off at Taimushan. Approximately 800 participants from across the country gathered at the "Fairyland at the sea," embarking on a unique journey through dramatic rocks, mysterious caves, and a thousand-year-old cultural heritage.
At the morning start, the sharp whistle echoed through the valley as runners dashed onto the course. The event featured two categories: the Challenge Group and the Family Hiking Group. The Challenge Group covered 8 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 535 meters, passing cultural landmarks like the Goddess of Taimu Statue Square and Guoxing Temple, as well as natural wonders such as Immortal Sawing Plank and Rabbit Listening to the Tide. Participants also experienced the fusion of geological marvels and off-road challenges in narrow passages like One-Line Sky and Dripping Water Cave. The Family Hiking Group, focused on fun and bonding, followed a 5-kilometer route connecting attractions like Heart of Taimu, Juxian Pavilion, and the Sea-Viewing Boardwalk, allowing families to immerse themselves in the majestic and poetic "Mountain-Sea Grand View."
Throughout the race, runners navigated caves and stone steps, sweating and pushing their limits. Ultimately, Wang Guolong from Shaoxing, Zhejiang, won the men's Challenge Group with a time of 39 minutes and 7 seconds, while Guo Lihua from Fuding took the women's Challenge Group title with 46 minutes and 22 seconds.
"This is not just a competition, but a profound experience of measuring Taimushan's geological wonders with our steps and feeling the local customs of the white tea hometown," said Lin Qin, Director of the Taimushan Management Committee. She added that the committee will continue to deepen the "Sports plus" model, using events to attract visitors and boost local industries like catering and accommodation, injecting sustainable sports momentum into rural revitalization.
