The Songshan UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the north of Dengfeng city, 60 km southwest of Zhengzhou , the capital of Henan province in China. It is an integrated geopark that features primarily geologic structures. It is also a park of geomorphology, ecology and culture .It covers an areas of 464 km² and consists of 5 scenic areas: Mount Taishi, Mount Shaoshi, Mount Wufo, Mount Wuzhi and Shicong River.

   The Archean ,Proterozoic ,Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata are well outcropped in Mount Songshan Global Geopark ,which has been reputed by geologists as “five generations under one roof ”.In a scope of less than 10km in Songshan area ,the clear contact interfaces of angular unconformity and typical tectonic deformation heritages were well preserved ,which were formed by three violent crustal movements which happened 2.5 billion years ago,1.8 billion years ago and 543 million years ago respectively. They are named by geologists the Songyang orogeny,the Zhongyue orogeny and the Shaolin movement.

   The Songshan Global Geopark is full of natural and cultural resources, it was once a converging place of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. “The Center of Heaven and Earth” ,a historical architecture group in Dengfeng city, was put on the list of World Culture Heritage by UNESCO in 2010 .Integrated with world-rare geoheritages ,it has become a comprehensive and famous tourist destination for scientific research ,earth science popularization ,an d tourism.
