Dali Mount Cangshan UNESCO Global Geopark is located in Dali City, Yunnan Province, covering an area of 933 km² and was approved as a member of the Global Geoparks Network in 2014.

The Geopark is rich in the geological relics with the most representative landscapes include the Quaternary glacial landforms of more than 10,000 years old, the metamorphic rocks formed more than 20 million years ago and later transformed by the complex geology (especially the marble), a variety of tectonic traces and geomorphological landscapes formed by the Himalayan orogeny, the fault lake Erhai formed with the uplift of Canshan Mountains 1.5 million years ago, and the rock islands and lakeside wetlands with characteristics of Erhai eroded “coastal landform”.

There are more than 25 ethnic groups living in Dali, including Bai, Han, Yi, Hui and many others.  The Nanzhao and Dali culture were created here with a number of intangible cultural heritages such as Raosanling (a worship ceremony around the three spirits of Bai), embroidery and dyeing skill of Bai and so on. The Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, Taihe Castle Site, Xizhou traditional Bai architectures, and many other cultural heritage sites make it known as the “City of Literature”.
