Introduction to Liancun

Liancun, formerly known as Shijijin, is the hometown of Xue Zhiling, the first metropolitan graduate since the establishment of Fujian Province and thus making the village the first in the history of Fujian with a metropolitan graduate. The pure and upright performance during Xue Zhiling's service as an officer helped the village gain the name of "Lian" by the Emperor then, also marking the first conferred with such a name. During the reign of Xiaoyan in the Kingdom of Liang (502-519), Xue He, the Imperial Minister of the State, together with his family, moved to Fujian from since Jiangzuonan and lived there then. So far, about 1,500 years have passed.
At the foot of Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark Baiyunshan and adjacent to the banks of rivers, Liancun is an ancient village encircled by mountains and waters. The village enjoys superior traffic conditions and 15km away from the downtown of Fu'an and has long been reputed as the "back garden of Fu'an". The village holds forth profound cultural deposits and gives birth to talents from generation to generation. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the village was well-known for its production of 33 metropolitan graduates. So far, the existing relics include ancient castle, ancient state highway, ancient wharf, ancient ancestral hall, ancient dwellings, ancient woodcarving, ancient stone carving, ancient folding screen, ancient banian, ancient paintings and calligraphy works and a large amount of folk custom relics. So far, the village has been appraised as a Chinese historical and cultural village, traditional Chinese village, national ecological village, national AAA scenic area, demonstration village of China's rural tourism, China's most beautiful village in 2017, anti-corruption base of Fujian Province and other honorary titles.
