Puyuan Village presents a layout of Eight Diagrams. Dwellings with grey tiles and mud walls are located by the brook, maintaining characteristics of waterside villages same to those in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Puyuan is listed in the third batch of Fujian Provincial Historic Cultural Villages. Within the village, the Carp Brook honored as "wonder in China" by CCTV flows quietly through the one-thousand-year vicissitudes of time and space. In this brook which is over 1000m long and several meters wide, tens of thousands of carps swim and leap freely in droves. The scenes of "Harmonious coexistence between human and carps", "Human and carps are happy together", "Carps will show up and gather around once hearing human voices and seeing human figures", "Carps compete for swimming upstream" and "Carps leap over the dragon gate" in Carp Brook have become "wonders in China". The traditional carp culture of harmonious coexistence between human and carps has been inherited for over 800 years, earning high reputations at home and abroad. Wang Hong the poet in the Ming Dynasty composed a poetic masterpiece through the ages of "to appreciate the carps instead of an attempt of fishing" here. Thanks to its "uniqueness worldwide in three aspects" - the unique legendary carp burial, unique carp funeral customs and unique carp funeral oration worldwide, Carp Brook won the title of "No. 1 in China" granted by China Records. In 2006, the carp protection culture in Carp Brook was listed in the first batch of Fujian provincial intangible cultural heritages, and the article of Wonderful Carp Brook has been excerpted by the general edition of Chinese language textbooks for Grade Three of national primary education since November 11, 2015.

Seated by the lake of the Carp Brook Park (located downsream) is the boat-shaped Zheng Ancestral Hall, which is rare among ancestral halls nationwide, as well as the most completely reserved ancestral hall in the East China. Wenchang Pavilion, Guanyin Pavilion and Lingong Palace nearby are full of antique beauty, adding a beautiful scenery to the cultural landscape of Carp Brook. In the collection of ancient stone tablets nearby the Ancestral Hall, there are stone tablets inscribed with poems and articles composed by some ancient and modern writers & poets who came here to appreciate the carps. The newly built lotus pond is filled with fragrant lotus flowers and poetical sensation. In addition, some ancient architectures (like Xiaozifang and Baiyun'an) are also located beside the Puyuan Village.
