As a She ethnic administrative village under the jurisdiction of Panxi Town (Fuding), Chixi Village is located on the southwest hill of Taimushan - the national park of China and Level 5A tourist attraction belonging to the Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark. Surrounded and passed by both the Nine Carps Creek and Xiashan Creek, Chixi Village is rich in tourism resources, tea, bamboo, freshwater aquaculture, water conservancy and mineral reserves.

In 1984, a letter from reader titled as An Impoverished Village is Longing for Special Policies to Get Rid of Poverty and Achieve Prosperity was published in People's Daily, which reflected the poverty of Chixi Village. This letter drew high attention of the Central Government, leading to the initiation of national poverty relief & development works, and Chixi Village was known as "China's Poorest Village" thereby. On January 29, 2015, the poverty relief results in Chixi Village were affirmed by General Secretary Xi Jinping in his instructions; in the morning of February 19, 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping contacted cadres and villagers in Chixi Village via an online video connection in the studio of People.cn, who sincerely expressed his best wishes to the well-being of all villagers.

At present, Chixi Village is known as the Pilot of National Characteristic Minority Villages, Pilot Village for Poverty Relief via Tourism in China, Demonstration Village of China's Rural Tourism, and China's Most Beautiful Leisure Village.
